A Week of Cars

Michigan may not have the best reputation, for anything, but that doesn't mean it's totally lost. Last week, Wednesday July 23 to the 27, turned out to be one of the most amazing weeks of my life. It all started in Ohio on Wednesday night with a last second trip to Eldora to watch the Camping World Truck Series to their thing in the dirt. Easily one of the coolest races I've ever seen. Our next target was the German gathering at the Inn at St. John's in Plymouth Michigan the Friday night before the big Concours on Sunday. The next day we made a trip over to our favorite spot for Cars and Coffee on Woodward Ave and 14 mile. Not only do they put on an epic show very Saturday, but it's also a hobby store with tons of 1:43, 1:18 and books and magazines. With that ending, we headed back to the Inn at St. John's for the Italian meeting before the Concours, it was the weekend of the Axis powers apparently. After mingling with the typical uppity Ferrari people, we headed over to our local shooting range/race track Waterford Hills for some historic racing. It was almost as if we were in Monterey, just without all the really cool old cars. Then it was Sunday, and the main Concours back at St. John's. All in all, four days of racing and car shows, with some of the most expensive and rare cars I've ever seen. I started out with local NASCAR fans on a dirt track and ended with rich people looking at cars worth over a million dollars. I wouldn't have it any other way.
