Open Day: Waterford
The winter is finally gone, and racing season is starting to get underway. A local race track in Michigan held an open track day for anyone wanting to shakedown their cars, or just push the limits of their road cars after a long winter of slow driving. And don't mind the sensor dust, it was a long winter.
For only 2 dollars a person to get in, it was a perfect way to get back into the racing spirit.
Most of the cars were Miatas and Corvettes, with a few other track cars thrown in. But this was something I've never seen before. A '30s body on a full out race chassis with massive slicks. I was easily one of the fastest cars within the group.
This Tercel was in the same group. It only ran in one season, so I didn't really get a good feel fr how fast it was. But I'm sure this was just a run to clean out the dust and do some racing.
These two Elise were pretty quick too. The white one had a great exhaust note, as well as some pretty good times to boot.
First gen. M5? Enough said.
Pretty cool seeing this Evo driver with an open face helmet with balaclava cover his mouth. Maybe a little nod to the days of Grand Prix racers in the '60s.
Pretty sure this guy was having a blast. How could you not with a first gen. M5?
Even though the Corvette C7 just came out, this guy was thrashing it around the track. Coming down the straights you could see the front end lift and then drop back down as he slammed on the brakes.
This MG was a little too excited to get back in the racing spirit and locked them up coming into the corner.
Just a little dip into the grass and he was back out. Just to go back into the pits for the rest of the session.
And then there was this.
It was awesome.
